With Cailleach Books and Adroit Press

In a time where housing is scarce and affordable community spaces are difficult to find, the ability to make our own commons becomes even more important.

For Culture Night 2026, Adroit Press in collaboration with Cailleach Books presents an evening of community gathering at Barlow House!

We will be hosting a participatory workshop that teaches you how to tie basic knots and lashings used in building shelter or setting up impromptu events. Following this, Cailleach Books will be open for local residents, activists and artists to drop-in, share discussions and browse a selection of DIY publishers in a self-assembled bookshop.

Cailleach Books is an experimental bookshop project concerned with the distribution of DIY publishing, zines, book objects and poetry pamphlets from Ireland. A cailleach is an Irish word for witch or crone, a multifaceted, liminal character, and an inspiration for this work. Cailleach Books appears in many forms and iterations, an ever evolving bookshop space and practice.

Adroit Press is a Cork-based, small DIY publisher of zines and other printed things made by Cass Loupe.

NIGHT MOVES CULTURE NIGHT LATE

An innovative late-night programme produced by Droichead Arts Centre, funded by The Arts Council, Drogheda's Nighttime Economy Advisor and the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport. Designed to build on the success of Droichead’s ongoing NIGHT Moves programme, collaborating with several promoters and curators in Drogheda, including Spiral, Drogheda Groove Movement, Blas Do Theanga, Spiral, Cailleach Books, Boyne Trad Fest, 33-45, SJ McArdle and Vivienne Byrne. Providing new, experimental, engaging intergenerational nighttime cultural experiences across accessible public & shared spaces including McHughs, Odd Mollies, The Coffee Box, Graft Burger Hub at Abbey Lane, The former Methodist Church, Droichead Arts Centre Barlow House, and Stockwell Street.
